Why Support Jerry's Comfort Cross Ministry
Jerry's Comfort Cross Ministry provides comfort crosses and resource information to cancer and other seriously ill patients who desire to heal and grow in their spiritual life. Research has shown that the right state of mind and spirit can have a profound impact on the body and how it heals and responds to treatment. Our Ministry has teamed with The Dayton Foundation and works to improve the length and quality of life for adult and child cancer patients through donations to specific cancer research centers. Jerry's Comfort Cross Ministry is volunteer based and all donations going towards the cost of the crosses, prayer cards, packaging and mailings with the remaining going directly for cancer research.
Jerry's Comfort Cross Ministry was created shortly after Jerry McCormick passed away after a 15-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Jerry’s mother died from Colon Cancer and his father had suffered from leukemia. Cancer not only has devastating impact on the Mind, Body and Spirit of the patient, it also has a profound effect on a patient’s loved ones, emotionally, spiritually, and financially. Jerry was fortunate enough to be able to grow spiritually during his illness and not every cancer patient experiences that. One of Jerry’s nieces provided him with a comfort cross which he held for prayer and in the times he was struggling. The comfort cross became the light Jerry needed in his spiritual life. As Jerry was receiving his chemo treatments at the infusion clinic, he became keenly aware through observation that many newly diagnosed patients and those receiving treatment appeared anxious and to be struggling with their cancer. Jerry wasted no time in ordering many comfort crosses and then began providing them to the many patients he observed. Only Jerry’s wife and two children knew about the crosses he provided to patients. This meant so much to him and the patients were so grateful for the comfort crosses that our family wanted to continue his legacy but on much larger scale. Jerry's Comfort Cross Ministry was created to do just that and as equally important to provide much needed research dollars to help find better and more effective treatments for cancer patients as well as increasing the quality of their lives.
